Archaeological Monitoring & Recording (Watching Brief)

Where archaeological remains are judged to be of limited extent or scope, a Watching Brief may be recommended in place of a full excavation. CFA’s field archaeologists are fully qualified professionals who can monitor all types of groundworks and excavations. They will record any discovered remains quickly and efficiently, and are experts at working with your team to achieve project goals.

Evaluation Trial Trenching

Archaeological evaluations examine the cultural heritage potential of a site. Trial trenches are laid systematically in grids or over areas of possible archaeology, and the results of these excavations are critical in informing on the need and strategy for any future works.

CFA’s fieldwork team has undertaken trial trenching jobs ranging in size from one to over one thousand trenches, and are adept in completing these projects on time and on budget. We will work on your behalf to agree an appropriate number of trenches with the planning authority to best streamline your projects while meeting our professional and legal obligations.
